Pinteza/FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything about playing Pinteza, the free daily word game for iOS and Android.
The basics (yes, it is free)
Is Pinteza free?
Yes. Pinteza is a free daily word game, with no account required.
Is this just another five-letter word game?
We hope not. The word changes length day to day, five, six, or seven letters, every word you solve is yours to keep in your Dossiê, and there is a weekly Chaos twist on top of Sprint and one-versus-one Duo. Same satisfying tiles, a lot more reason to come back.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play everything without signing up. Your progress is saved on your device and can be restored on a new phone through your own iCloud (iOS) or Google (Android) backup.
Can I play Pinteza offline?
Mostly. Practice, Sprint and Chaos play fully offline. The daily word is fetched fresh each day, so it needs a moment online to load, then you finish it offline. Only Duo, the real-time one-versus-one duel, needs a live connection.
Playing the daily
How do you play Pinteza?
Guess the day's hidden word. After each guess, tiles turn green for a correct letter in the right position and amber for a correct letter in the wrong position, helping you close in on the answer. See the full how to play guide.
How many guesses do I get?
Six guesses on five and six-letter days, and seven on the seven-letter days, so the longest words come with an extra try.
Why does the word length change?
The daily word is 5, 6, or 7 letters depending on the day, so no two days play the same. It keeps the daily fresh instead of always being a five-letter puzzle.
How is the daily word chosen?
There is one curated word a day, the same for everyone, so results are comparable and shareable. A new word arrives at local midnight.
Why does the daily word need a connection?
So no one can read ahead. Instead of shipping weeks of words inside the app, Pinteza serves the day's word fresh each morning, the same for everyone. It loads in about a second, then you play. Because the schedule isn't sitting on your device to be dug out, tomorrow's word stays a genuine surprise and a fair race for the whole world. More on how the modes play in our Chaos guide.
Modes, streaks, and the long game
What game modes are there?
Five: the Daily puzzle, Practice, Sprint against a timer, a weekly Chaos modifier that changes the rules, and Duo, a real-time one-versus-one duel with a friend.
What is Chaos mode?
Chaos rotates a new rule-bending modifier every week, the same for everyone. There are seven in the rotation, from a reversed word to a shrinking keyboard, and no modifier repeats within any four-week window.
How do streaks and streak shields work?
Win the daily puzzle on consecutive days to build a streak. Streak shields you earn as you play can cover the occasional missed day, so a single slip does not reset everything.
Can I play against a friend?
Yes. Duo is a real-time one-versus-one word duel. Share a link like pinteza.app/K7M2QX (or just the code) and your friend lands straight in your match, then race to solve the same word.
Languages and where to play
What languages does Pinteza support?
English and Portuguese, in both European (Portugal) and Brazilian variants. You pick your language in the app, and more are added over time.
Is it European or Brazilian Portuguese?
Both. Pinteza has European Portuguese (português de Portugal) and Brazilian Portuguese (português do Brasil), each written by hand, not machine-translated between them.
What platforms is Pinteza on?
iOS and Android, as a free download, launching soon.
Streaks and saves
I missed a day. Did I lose my streak?
Probably not. Pinteza has streak shields. You earn one for every 7 days of your streak and can hold up to 2, and if you miss a single day a shield is spent automatically to keep your streak alive. You will see it on your end screen and in the streak view. A shield bridges one missed day, so a longer gap will still reset the run.
Will my streak randomly reset like in other word games?
It should not. Your streak and stats are saved on your device with atomic writes and an automatic backup copy, so a crash or an interrupted save will not wipe them. Win the daily and it counts. If a streak ever looks wrong, contact us and we will help.
If I get a new phone or reinstall, do I keep my progress?
Pinteza backs your progress up through your phone's own cloud, your Apple account on iOS and your Google account on Android, so a new phone or a reinstall can restore your streak, stats and Dossiê. There is no separate Pinteza login to remember.
The words
Why won't Pinteza accept my word, and are the answers obscure?
Pinteza uses its own hand-checked word lists for each language, so the answers are words people actually know, and Brazilian and European Portuguese are curated separately. The list of words you are allowed to guess is far larger than the list of possible answers, so you can still try uncommon words as probes. If a real, common word is missing, tell us and we will add it.
Can I find out what the word means?
Yes. Every word you solve is saved to your Dossiê, your personal word collection, together with its meaning and a rarity from Common to Legendary. So the daily is not guess-and-forget. You build a growing library of words you have met and can read what each one means.
Accessibility
Is there a colour-blind mode?
Yes. Settings has a colour-blind mode that shifts the tile colours to a palette that is easier to tell apart, so correct and misplaced letters stay clear.
The animations are a lot for me. Can I turn them down?
Yes. Turn on reduced motion in Settings and Pinteza calms the animations and effects while keeping the game fully playable. It also follows your device's system reduced-motion setting.
